Publishing an Interesting Website For Your Small Business
So, you have a small business that’s been up and running for a month; the only thing you can think of anymore is how everyone has a website for their business while you don’t. And so you get a website designer who can you put the website together; and you’re happy at the end of the day that you aren’t lagging behind. But you’re forgetting something here…
The only reason you’re publishing a website is that you’ve been inspired by what other businesses have put on their homepages. They didn’t do it just because everyone else was doing it.
Before publishing a website for your business, you need to know exactly what it is it is supposed to achieve. And it needs to be a strong enough feeling, the idea you have for your website, that it gets you excited.
If it doesn’t get even you excited, it’s going to be a yawn-fest for your audience. You see this kind of thing with businesses and their Facebook and Twitter presences too. They go there because every small business magazine tells them that they should. But once they’re there, they can only make small talk and ask people to visit their website.
What you need is a kind of plan for your website. Your never even think of putting a website together until they have a very clear idea what kind of feeling it is supposed to put out in the end.
Your plan needs to strongly describe in incisive terms, what the purpose of the website is, whom it is meant for, what kind of design attributes it’s supposed to have, how much security it will provide, how much audiovisual stuff will go in, and what you’re willing to spend on it.
Even when you have all of this put together though, publishing a website that interests people isn’t easy. Business websites are notorious for how boring they can be. They’re all big on industry jargon, facts and figures and press releases. You don’t want to fall into that trap. Spend some time taking a look around at business websites that inspire and entertain, then follow their lead when building your own site.
